Maximator US has been manufacturing patented, state-of-the-art coning and threading machines since 2011 — faster, more accurate, and safer than any other machine on the market.
Our MTCAT handles 1/4" through 1" OD tubing, while the MTCAT-1.5 is the only coning and threading machine in the industry capable of handling 1-1/2" medium pressure tubing. Both machines chuck the tube once and complete coning and threading in a single setup — no repositioning required. Used in Oil & Gas, Waterjet Cutting, Food Processing, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Installations, and R&D facilities. Available for purchase and rental.
MTCAT CONING & THREADING MACHINE (US PATENT 9,015,915)
The MTCAT is the only single-ended coning and threading machine on the market — and the fastest available. Tube is fixtured once; the coning head and threading head complete both operations without removing or repositioning the workpiece, eliminating setup time between operations and reducing the risk of operator error. Capable of coning and threading 4" straight length nipples through 1" OD tubing. CE Marked. Hardened tool steel coning blades deliver a consistent, clean surface finish across hundreds of tubes. Plexiglass guarding and minimal pinch points protect operators and meet shop safety standards.
-
Speed
The MTCAT is the fastest coning and threading machine available. Installing the tube once for both coning and threading eliminates the repositioning step required by all other machines — significantly cutting per-tube cycle time on high-volume jobs. The die head also resets automatically on the retract stroke, saving further setup time between tubes.
-
Accuracy and Repeatability
Hardened tool steel coning blades are designed to cut both the angle and straight land areas simultaneously, ensuring concentricity between the sealing surfaces on every tube. Single-fixturing eliminates the measurement error introduced when repositioning between operations. The result is a consistent, leak-free coned and threaded connection — on tube 1 and tube 1,000.
-
Ease of use
With minimal training, operators can safely produce consistent coned and threaded tubes from the first session. The MTCAT requires no calibration, no tool changes between coning and threading, and uses a single lever with handwheel assist. Internal needle bearings and high-strength materials ensure smooth, long-lasting operation without maintenance downtime.
-
Safety
Both MTCAT models are fully enclosed with Plexiglass shields and designed to minimize pinch points — protecting operators from metal chips and cutting oil splash. Cutting oil is delivered directly through the rotating spindle to the blade area, eliminating exposed gooseneck nozzles. The two-stage chip filtration system keeps the work area clean with minimal downtime.

Coning and Threading Tools Frequently Asked Questions
What is coning and threading?
Coning and threading is a method of preparing high-pressure tubing for use with coned-and-threaded connections. The end of the tubing is machined to create the required cone and external thread, allowing it to mate with the corresponding high-pressure fitting.
Why is proper tubing preparation important?
Proper tubing preparation is essential for creating a reliable coned-and-threaded connection. Correctly preparing the tubing with the appropriate tools helps ensure the tubing and fitting are properly matched and ready for high-pressure service.
What is the difference between the MTCAT machines and hand tools?
MTCAT machines provide a powered, repeatable method for preparing tubing, while hand tools provide a manual option for coning and threading. The appropriate choice depends on factors such as tubing size, production requirements and the application.
Which tubing sizes can the MTCAT machines handle?
MTCAT machines offer the flexibility to prepare a wide range of tubing sizes. With the appropriate tooling, operators can cone and thread 1/4" to 1-1/2" medium-pressure tubing and 1/4" to 9/16" high-pressure tubing on the same machine platform. Simply change the tooling to move between tubing sizes, giving you a versatile solution that can adapt to a variety of high-pressure tubing requirements.
Which tubing sizes can the hand tools handle?
Maximator hand tools are designed to prepare a range of tubing sizes for medium- and high-pressure applications. Different threading dies and cutting blades are used for different tubing sizes, allowing the same hand-tool system to adapt to multiple tubing requirements. This provides a versatile, practical solution for on-site, maintenance and lower-volume tubing preparation.
When should I use a machine versus a hand tool?
A machine may be appropriate when repeatability, production volume or processing efficiency are important. Hand tools can provide a practical option for lower-volume work, maintenance, field applications or situations where a powered machine is not required.
What tooling do I need for my tubing?
The required tooling depends on the tubing size, wall thickness and whether you are using an MTCAT machine or hand tool. Maximator offers the appropriate cutting blades, threading dies and coning tools for different tubing sizes and applications. For detailed tooling options and specifications, see the Tools & Installation Catalog.
Can the tools be used for medium-, high- and ultra-high-pressure connections?
Yes. Maximator coning and threading tools are designed for a wide range of tubing and connection applications, including high-pressure applications up to 65,000 psi and ultra-high-pressure applications up to 101,000 psi. The appropriate tooling depends on the tubing size, wall thickness and connection requirements. For detailed information on compatible tubing sizes, pressure ratings and tooling options, see the Tools & Installation Catalog.
How do I select the correct tooling?
Start with the tubing outside diameter, wall thickness and the connection specification. These dimensions determine the appropriate coning and threading tooling. Maximator US can help identify the correct tooling based on your tubing and application requirements
Can Maximator help me determine which coning and threading tool I need?
